While I give huge credit to the way the game was designed to keep you immersed by not having so much unnecessary icons all over everything, I think part of my success getting through such a big game was that my attitude has been changing on these games, like I don't need to 100% games any more. There was one guy I met who was like 'hey find me 3 of this herb' but it felt like it was more about teaching you how that crafting system worked, and the herbs were very nearby, so it took all of maybe 5 minutes start to finish.

The map is big, but there are no pointless sidequests. And, at least on the high honor playthrough I did, you still manage to find ways to see the good in people and the world around you despite the circumstances. But it's so well done you get attached to these people, even ones you know things are going to turn out badly for. You know things aren't going to turn out well - its a tragedy and you know it going in if you know the story of RDR, which this is a prequel to. The story of Arthur Morgan and the downfall of the Van der Linde gang is incredibly compelling. Go to new area, get to top of tower/capture a fort to unlock the map, get a million little pips on your map to go pick up that ultimately don't matter and are super repetitive, move to next area and rinse wash repeat. People kept telling me I was missing out on not playing the single player campaign but tbh I'm generally kind of burnt out on these massive open world games in general. So I am guilty of having this game installed, and even playing Red Dead Online a fair bit due to having some friends in it, and never actually playing the campaign, until now.
